10/12/12 - Pemberton release, forthcoming Yage EP

A quick update from FSOLDigital before the end of the year, with Daniel Pemberton's soundtrack to the BBC/National Geographic film Space Dive, the story of Felix Baumgartner’s record-breaking freefall from the edge of space to Earth. For the first month FSOLdigital purchases also comes with the exclusive 4 track EP SILENT SKY I – IV.
It's very FSOL-sounding stuff, not too far off the classical-ish material they've done with Pemberton on Environments 2, 3 and 4.  With sixteen tracks plus the bonus EP, it's a bargain at £5.99 too.

Purchase point.

Elsewhere, on the FSOLDigital front page, there's a new advert for Yage's Woodlands of Old which states that a new EP, Pygmy People (tracks heard on FSOLDigital Sampler 2), is forthcoming.

Finally, Seafar gave us a hint of a new Seafar EP entitled Totem due on 12/12/12 - no more news yet, but we'll have our eyes metaphorically peeled on Wednesday.

03/11/12 - Archive 7, Prime World, Noel Gallager tired of Amorphous collab, Amorphous get soupy

Hello hello.  It's been a long time.  Apologies.  Work gets in the way and all that.  Anyway, we've missed a fair bit of exciting news in the past couple of months, so here's what's going on.

From the Archives vol. 7 is out on 19th November (unless you happen to live in Germany, where it appears to be out already).  The tracklist runs as so:

1. Lost in the Mists of Time

2. Temples
3. Outer Heaven
4. Many Moons Away
5. Shifting Sands
6. Walls of Thought
7. War Machines
8. Flygon
9. Earth's Twin
10. Switzerland
11. Must be Mistaken
12. Old Train
13. Heat Distortions
14. Exchanged

Those who order through FSOLDigital will also receive two free bonus tracks: Hydromedusa and Abandoned Housing Blocks of Prypiat.  The cover is pretty strange and features what looks to be an elderly Vit:

And you can hear a snippet of Walls of Thought on this YouTube video.  The piece is, amazingly, from 1991, and features Riz Maslen on vocals:

Lovely stuff.

Meanwhile, progress in the Prime World camp, here's some rather nice footage of the game showing how Envionments-linked the music is:

In less positive news, Noel Gallagher has finally given up on the Amorphous Androgynous album, citing the importance of getting the right mix with that kind of music, and no longer having the energy to be there during the mixing process after his year long tour.  We're waiting for it to reappear as the great lost album in five years when his third solo record doesn't meet critical expectations...

Meanwhile, Max Richter's 'Toy Piano' interpretation of Divinty from The Otherness has recently appeared on a Heinz soup advert.

And that's about all for now.

31/08/12 - Massive FSOLDigital overhaul, usual announcement of a billion releases, and other stuff

In remembering past FSOLDigital updates, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that earlier this week, the band not only indirectly announced forthcoming releases of Environments 5, From the Archives vol. 7, Pygmy by Yage,  as well as releases by current unknowns The Superheads, The Field Recorders and The Bringers, but allowed us to hear snippets of each album.  All of these, plus a huge wealth of previously released material, is available on the second FSOLDigital Mix, entitled The Fears and Fantasies of the Unconscious Mind.

That's not all!

You can also pick up the new Ross Baker release (hello!), a soundtrack to a short film entitled Beacon Tor, which combines dark ambient, lo-fi acoustics and modern classical sounds.  An mp3 and CD combined release of a field recording compilation featuring Riz Maslen, entitled Neck of the Woods is also available.  And, excitingly for those of us with a few spare pounds, some beautiful looking art prints of We Have Explosive, Papua New Guinea, and some exclusive Environments artwork, are all available with certificates of authenticity signed by the band!  Also coming soon, the Enhanced Archives, the original three Archive albums mixed together to form albums a la volumes 3-6.

FSOLDigital.com also has a rather lovely new design.  And not just that, new versions of futuresoundoflondon.com and amorphousandrogynous.com are on their way, and are due to boast a wealth of information and exclusive material.  For a tantalising preview, check this incredible article on the forums, mentioning a certain tape which was sneakily mentioned to us a couple of years ago but unheard of since.

Not a band to do things in halves, FSOL.

23/07/12 - Apologies, remixes and forums

Hello.  Everything's been quiet, because I've been at work and don't have the internet in my flat, so many apologies for things being quiet.

First up, the FSOLBoard is currently offline, due to issues with the ilovecubus server.  Pete informs me it'll be back in the next few days so good news there.

In the meantime, there's a new remix to listen to. B-side to the upcoming Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds single, 'Everybody's on the Run', is the Amorphous remix of previous single 'AKA... What a Life!'. The 16 minute track follows the band's direction over the last few years into a slightly more rhythmic, electronic, dare I say 'dancey' direction. It's pretty surprising in how unlike most Amorphous material it sounds, until the last few minutes. Anyway, have a listen here on the Noel Gallagher YouTube channel:

28/04/12 - Environments 4 clips online now

FSOLDigital and Juno now have clips of all 14 tracks from Environments 4. Some of the clips take in different parts of the songs, so they give a good overall idea of how the album sounds.

25/04/12 - Murmurations 12" on FSOLDigital

And just to tidy things up, the Murmurations 12" is now available from FSOLDigital - or at least a few copies are. This is very limited and is bound to sell out quickly (the DJ Food one was gone within a day!), so grab yours now. Linky dinky.

25/04/12 - Old(ish) library music uncovered

It's usually at this point - with new music coming in from all sides - that somebody comes up with an old, hidden release we weren't aware of.  And this is no exception.  Coming again from the mysterious bringer of news frodekommode, we have two more discs of library music, seemingly connected to the Monsterism Island project of Pete Fowler, entitled Monsterism Day and Monsterism Night, released on the Lo Editions label.  Monsterism Day features 'Good Morning Islands', credited to Dougans, Cobain and Mikey Rowe, whilst Monsterism Night boasts three Dougans/Cobain tracks: Rituals and You, Where in the Hedges, and Locals Only, the latter recorded with ex-Propellerhead Will White (as also featured on Environments 2 and The Woodlands of Old).
You can read more about these on Discogs: Day and Night. As these are promotional only, there's no news on exactly where and how to hear these tracks. One can only hope they've either appeared on other releases, a la some of the Extreme Music tracks, or will see wider release one day.

edit: most of this seems to have appeared elsewhere in other names, but the track 'Where in the Hedges' is exclusive.  Listen here.

23/04/12 - Environments 4 on YouTube, 12" on FSOLDigital

Hello.  As I am currently using an internet connection which blocks YouTube, things will be most simple if I point you all in the direction of this part of the Environments 4 thread to see videos for Murmurations, Clear Light of Reality, Fibrilation and Stand a Little Less Between Me and the Sun, or at least clips of said tracks. It's mostly acoustic tinged ambience of the very ambient variety, except Murmurations which sounds like... well, the Amorphous Androgynous, bizarrely. The video comments state that the album is available 'Now', which is possibly slightly misleading as it's still available for pre-order on FSOLDigital. Mind you, Gaz advertised the availablity of The Peppermint Tree on CD quite a while before it was released, so maybe that's less of a surprise in perspective.
Speaking of Gaz, the Amorphousy Murmurations appeared on both his theelectronicbrain and GazCobain YouTube accounts, which is just a nice confirmation that FSOL is a going concern of his these days, rather than a Brian-based project.
All in all, these tracks mean the album is shaping up to be very interesting indeed, and has got everyone wondering what other surprises it will contain.

While you ponder over that and wait for your CD copy to arrive in the post, you can also order the DJ Food remix 12" from FSOLDigital. Hurrah and all that.  Hurry though, it's proven incredibly popular so far...

20/04/12 - Oh yeah, that MPB mix was on last night

Forgot all about this one. The new 30 minute Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding in Your Mind mix by The Amorphous Androgynous was on Solid Steel last night and can be streamed here. The tracklist runs as so:

Link Wray – Switchblade (Passport)
Amorphous Androgynous/Gil Scott Heron – Ripped Off (What About Now) (White Label)
Black Sun Ensemble – Dove Of The Desert (Slowburn)
Pink Floyd – Obscured By The Sun (Harvest)
Mike Oldfield – On Horseback (Virgin)
Yoko Ono/The Plastic Band – Touch Me (Apple)
Noel Gallagher – Shoot A Hole Into The Sun (Sour Mash)
Ian Kneel – Kingdom Of Birds (White Label)
Dj Food & Amorphous Androgynous – The Electric Images (In my Mind Never Die) (Ninja Tune)

A new Amorphous reworking in there along with some familiar stuff.

07/04/12 - 30 minute MPB mix for Solid Steel

DJ Food reports an Amorphous MPB mix for Solid Steel on 19th April. "In the in-box today: a 30 minute ‘Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble’ mix for Solid Steel by The Amorphous Androgynous including a reworking of a Gil Scott Heron track. This will be broadcast live on Solid Steel on April 19th via Strongroom Alive and then out on the web the day after via the usual Solid Steel channels." There are links to the streaming channels on his blog as linked at the top. At only 30 minutes, this is by far the shortest MPB mix to date. It is not known whether this will appear in the Pod Room as MPB9 or not, although given the lack of DJ mixes on there at the moment, it is unlikely.

Amazon delivers the goods this time, with details about the forthcoming Environments 4. The cover is the same as the one in the E3 booklet (with slightly larger text), and the tracklist runs at a rather tropical:

3. River Delta
4. Supercontinents
5. Sediment
6. Architektur
7. Murmurations
8. Sunsets
9. Photosynthesis
10. Stand A Little Less Between Me And The Sun
11. Fibrillation
12. Long Day
13. Vast Landscape
14. Clear Light Of Reality

21/03/12 - Murmurations from Environments 4

Just to confirm what was suspected: Murmurations will indeed be a preview for the forthcoming Environments 4. The album will hopefully be following shortly.

21/03/12 - FSOL 10" for Record Store Day

That's right, you can look forward to an extortionately priced 10" on eBay on April 22nd after Record Store Day touts have snapped up all of the copies of the Papua New Guinea/Murmurations single produced especially for the event.
Sorry, we mean 'support you local record store and buy it'. If you're lucky. No word on what Murmurations is, but as it's on Jumpin' & Pumpin' we reckon it might be Environments 4 material? Who knows.

10/03/12 - Dream On/Shoot a Hole Into the Sun on FSOLDigital

The CD single of Noel Gallagher's Dream On single, featuring his first track with The Amorphous Androgynous, 'Shoot a Hole Into the Sun', is now available to purchase from FSOLDigital for £3.00

Wednesday 29 February 2012

29/01/12 - Hear the first Noel/Amorphous track in full!

The first track from the Noel Gallagher & Amorphous Androgynous sessions is available to hear online now. The track is entitled 'Shoot a Hole Into the Sun', and is the Amorphous take on the considerably more poppy track on his debut album, 'If I Had a Gun'. It goes a bit like this...

Or, if you like, you can have a version without that image, as announced by Zane Lowe, with a rather large pronunciation error. The track was his hottest record in the world last night, check that here...

28/02/12 - Herd Headphone Commute Mix

While we await news of future releases, FSOLDigital artist and friend of the site Herd has released a mix containing a lot of his material, a fair whack of FSOL and some other electronica which might interest readers here. You can stream or download it from the Headphone Commute blog.

20/02/12 - Environments 4 Teaser, Noel Gallagher Teaser

Yes, Teaser is a bit of a strong word for what is little more than a wobbly title, but Brian just uploaded this short video to YouTube:

No actual 'music' in there, but it does at least signal a light at the end of the tunnel for those of us who've been eagerly awaiting this since the cover turned up nearly two years ago!

Meanwhile, in Amorphous world, you can check a (rather unsatisfying) 30 second clip of the full 8 minute version of their mix of Noel Gallagher's If I Had a Gun, entitled Shoot a Hole Into the Sun, on Amazon now. It's impossible to get an idea of how the whole thing samples from this rather meager offering, but needless to say it sounds like... Amorphous Androgynous and Noel Gallagher. We're looking forward to the full thing.

11/01/12 - Amorphous remix DJ Food

Hello!
"Just arrived, fresh from the Amorphous Androgynous (aka Future Sound of London) is a, frankly mind-melting, 17 minute remix of ‘The Illectrik Hoax’, a track from the album, featuring Natural Self on vocals. This has been in the pipeline for a while and they initially started work on a version of ‘GIANT’ but changed direction and so a three part Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble remix of the Hoax has been born. To say that they’ve thrown everything into it is an understatement, after a manic version of the original they proceed to tear it apart and reassemble fragments of it in two new versions."
Exciting news stolen from here.
