27/02/09 - FSOL live in Athens this May?

Promotions and media company Existenz (nothing to do with David Cronenberg. Probably) have a little animated screen on their website which happily announces "The Future Sound of London live in Athens 23 May 09". This is interesting news to us. Will it be a festival or a gig? FSOL or Amorphous? Live or ISDN? Who knows, but we'll find out. Hopefully. If you have any info, leave a comment or post on the forum or send an email!

SATURDAY MAY 23rd 2009
SOFTBALL STADIUM
HELLINICON OLYMPIC COMPLEX-ATHENS

The British emblematic band that defined ambient music during the ’90s and is considered to be one of the most influential projects in the history of electronic music, along with Kraftwerk and Orbital, will be performing for the first time in Greece opening a series of limited appearances in Europe, after 12 years of absence from live scenes. Geniusly combining elements from classical, electro, hip-hop, industrial, punk and dub music, Garry Cobain & Brian Dougans’ duet managed to build an absolutely unique sound and gained global reputation watching their single “Papua New Guinea” get legendary dimensions and become one of the best tracks of the kind, ever written.
Today, 17 years after their composition, they remain on top, their records get re-published and re-mixed, “Wire” magazine dedicates pages to them for their accomplishments and history is being re-written with the ink used by the most significant bands of all times.
With them, in a fulfilling day, three of the most important Greek bands with international credentials, a media arts collective, an inventive theatrical dance team and one of the best techno producers and djs in Europe, to complete the puzzle of the most essential Greek avant-garde festival of the past years.
As FSOL themselves have stated, “for the first time in the FSOL course, a festival is set, based entirely on the technical and artistic specifications of the band, a factor that makes it not just special, but also unique in its kind”.

More Facts:
- The Future Sound of London will perform live for the Greek audience exclusively, from their studio in London, just as they had always been doing sice their composition. The event in Athens will be just the 4th sound and vision live broadcast in the history of FSOL, something that makes this a historical live.
- The revolutionary sound system Funktion-one will be used for the first time in Greece (also used by the Chemical Brothers, Jamiroquai, Glastonbury festival and London’s Millennium Dome).
- Special visual intallations (Genarative visuals by Νanotek) and a high resolution L.E.D. screen (130m² projections in total)
- The festival will also host expeditions by young Greek artists, kiosks with various NGOs that will promote volunteerism and active participation of the young, as well as inform on environmental issues.
The softball venue of the Hellinicon Olympic Complex is one of the biggest, most organized and safest venues for the conduct of concerts in Athens, with capacity of 10.500 people. Main entrance from Posidonos Avenue. The doors will open at 20:00.
