"Just arrived, fresh from the Amorphous Androgynous (aka Future Sound of London) is a, frankly mind-melting, 17 minute remix of ‘The Illectrik Hoax’, a track from the album, featuring Natural Self on vocals. This has been in the pipeline for a while and they initially started work on a version of ‘GIANT’ but changed direction and so a three part Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble remix of the Hoax has been born. To say that they’ve thrown everything into it is an understatement, after a manic version of the original they proceed to tear it apart and reassemble fragments of it in two new versions."

More footage from EBS7 has appeared on YouTube this time with the enigmatic title of The Trees - An extract from "VIEWS". No idea what this means, although an educated guess would perhaps suggest The Trees is simply the video title, and Views is the track name, perhaps a new FSOL piece, (or if we want to be really silly, maybe the new FSOL album). It's a nice droney ambient piece with birdsong set to some beautiful woodland footage.

It seems the Noel Gallagher and Amorphous Androgynous collaboration due next year will feature ten original songs, and three reworkings of tracks from Noel's first solo record, High Flying Birds. The first snippet can now be heard in the form of a 30 second sample of the Amorphous version of new single If I Had a Gun here.

It sounds... like Amorphous with Noel Gallagher, really. No surprises there.

As featured at Amorphous shows and on Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble mixes, Cranium Pie provide some psych-prog-craziness, described as "a conceptual debut album [...] set in the radioactive dust of a post apocalyptic mecha-tyranny, involving the fight between simple organisms and machines to keep consciousness from extinction, as well as a sideways study of the insanity of the present day......part 2 due early 2012."

"Noel's first solo album will be released on 17th October. The second, done with Amorphous Androgynous, will be next year"

Titles and tracks remain to be seen, but this is almost certainly set to be the most high profile release Brian and Gaz have worked on in some time, of not ever. News on this next year when it comes in, we imagine.

18/05/11 - FSOL score Russian computer game

Now the news page is working properly again, we're able to mention the computer game FSOL are scoring. FSOL have teamed up with Russian composer Vladislav Isaev to compose the soundtrack for forthcoming computer game Prime World. Press releases and such have been translated and posted on the forum, here. Meantime, you can check out some sample music and stills from the game at the official site, and watch a trailer for what looks like a film about the composition of the soundtrack here.

The music on the game site is nice, fitting into a mixture of electronic and acoustic sounds that seem fitting after tracks like Heart Sick Chord. We'll keep you updated on any news regarding the game and its soundtrack.

Noel Gallagher has reportedly collaborated with Amorphous Androgynous on his upcoming solo material.

However, online blogger Peter Cornish-Barlow of Sourmash Music has claimed that the ex-Oasis guitarist disagrees with his management over the tracks.

Writing about the recording sessions on Twitter, Cornish-Barlow said: "He left LA to get away from his management because they don't like the work he is doing with Amorphous Androgynous

"No-one, apart from Noel likes the reworked material AA have done! Its causing problems in camp, so I am told. (sic)"

He added: "Also the feeling is that he won't get his way, and he will most likely [release] the album that did the rounds last year!

"The one [Ex-Creation boss Alan] McGee has heard. He has two albums worth of material too apparently."

It seems hiring Brian and Gaz isn't a sensible idea if your management want to push you as a sensible singer-songwriter type. Maybe there's a Her Tongue is Like a Jellyfish-esque piece on there. Here's hoping...

06/03/11 - Mental Cube gets the remix treatment

It's 2011, and Q is being re-released again. With a whole new batch of remixes. Now the Papua and Stakker remixes in the past few years have turned up a few gems, and the Tingler 12" was a nostalgic trip to promote the Pulse EPs collection, but we're not entirely sure why this is happening - especially as, not on Jumpin' & Pumpin', it does seem a bit out of place. Is there such a dearth of decent music in the modern dance scene that we're having to revisit old classics such as Q?

Actually, the sound of the remixes suggests probably so, we're struggling to tell the difference between most of the fairly dull versions on display on this promotional video. Sadly that video misses off the Will White and Lex Shellard version, which threatens to be the customary dubstep mix before heading off into some 90s house piano and samples of The Orb's Blue Room among other things. A sample of that can be heard here.

FSOL's MySpace has had a minor makeover, with what looks like meteorites falling from the sky on the background. What this means is anybody's guess. Is it something to do with Environments 4? Oasis board Live4ever reports:

"From an article in a Japanese magazine.

According to Virgil Howe, during his visit to Japan as a member of Little Barrie, the members of Amorphous Androgynous are in the midst of making Noel Gallagher's album.

Incidentally they came to Japan in early Dec last year."

Doesn't state which magazine, which members of Amorphous Androgynous, or anything else, but it's something.

Meanwhile - and this is a slightly NSFW site here - FSOL are to feature on a porn soundtrack. Did we say porn? Sorry, "adult entertainment film". It's called Sultrina. It'll probably just be Papua New Guinea. Who knows.

All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace, "a new Amorphous song improvised and demoed for the VERY first time in rehearsals 2010 LIVE by the band".

This sees Amorphous moving further away from musicians curated by Brian and Gaz and into full band territory. A nice song that reminds a little of Osho from The Isness - lyrics seem unfinished, but it'll be interesting to hear how the song progresses if it appears on an album in the future...

The name first appeared back in 1991 as a production credit and tracks on the first two Pulse EPs, plus releases later in the year of Papua New Guinea and Accelerator. 28th October 2010 will forever go down as the day when I should have just waited and done one big news update in the evening.

FSOLDigital.com has been updated with what we're hoping will be a stable format. Looking shiny and lovely and new, and with a new login system for the shopping cart, it really makes me want to buy stuff I can't afford. Some of the records have lost their descriptions and A Tiny Point Of Light has disappeared for good now, but otherwise it's all there. The Pod Room isn't complete yet and the mixes will be up soon, but it's been put online now so people can take advantage of the MPB3: Third Ear pre-order, rather than putting all your hard-earned cash into the pockets of HMV or Amazon.

A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding In Your Mind Volume 3: The Third Ear is released on... I dunno, Monstrous Bubble Records, History Records, nothing at all, it depends where you read. On the 1st November 2010. The cover looks something like this -> and, inevitably, it's mixed by The Amorphous Androgynous. Most excitingly for us is the presence of an exclusive Amorphous track, In Fear - no idea what that is yet - plus there are some tracks that date back right to MPB radio show vol 1 from 1997 in there, so it'll be a continuation from the previous volumes and no doubt a smash hit with the critics once more. Timothy Leary pops his head in, which is odd given Gaz's tee-total organic food no drugs or other naughty things existence, but when did anything ever make sense in the world of the Amorphous Androgynous. Whatever. This will surely be another excellently mixed disc of safe sounding groovy psych and bafflingly terrifying oddities from the history of music (just please nothing like that Lightning Tree track again. Can be purchased from Beatport and iTunes as part of the Ninja Tune XX compilation ('Volume 2', in this case), but not as an individual track. It's right down on page 4 there on Beatport in 'album only' mode, probably because they don't want to sell a 16 minute track for £1.30. Tight gits.

Talking of tight, it's nigh on £16 on there and a tenner on iTunes.

You can hear a sample of it there too. It sounds really fucking weird. And surprisingly funky. Imagine Chile Of The Bass Generation stuck through a blender.

The artists featured on the freebie, including Pete Molinari, Phosphorescent, The Jim Jones Revue, Beth Orton, Amorphous Androgynous, Besnard Lakes and Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson, have recorded their own versions of tracks from The Beatles' 1970 (and final) album, 'Let It Be'.

MOJO Editor In Chief Phil Alexander said of the special edition: "The MOJO Vinyl Edition is our way of celebrating the rebirth of vinyl which we've seen in recent years. Essentially, we created an incarnation of the magazine that we wanted to buy ourselves so it was something of a labour of love. In terms of the album itself, we hand-picked the acts and they all paid tribute to the enduring power of The Beatles by providing new perspectives on a set of classic tunes".

For discovered, read: just noticed. Longtime FSOL collaborator Riz Maslen - Neotropic - released the Ultra Freaky Orange EP in 1997. On it featured the track Ultra Freakyalarm Clock (Bin Dogs Remix). It shouldn't take too long to work out who Bin Dogs is in a FSOL context.

It sounds like this.

First up, Then Departed, a melodic, Lifeforms sounding piece that wouldn't sound out of place on Environments 2. Secondly, the oddly titled March Of The Money Men, which sounds very old indeed, perhaps Accelerator/Tales era.

After the Sun (apparently incorrectly) suggested Noel Gallagher is in the studio with 'dance duo' Amorphous Androgynous, now its Sunday sister paper The News Of The World has some quotes and then some rather citation needed text from Paul Weller.

Weller admits he got stuck in a rut before parting with his long-term backing band five years ago. "I was making music, but I wasn't fired up," he says. "I'd hemmed myself in with barriers, but I wrote some new types of songs that felt like a crack in the sky appearing.

"I realised I was the only one who'd created those boundaries. I'm on a roll and, after this record, the possibilities are endless."

Weller reveals he wants to write with singer Richard Hawley and dance duo Amorphous Androgynous, adding: "The one real idea I've got for my next record is to make it even more experimental!"

We'll see.

Congratulations all round to Brian and Gaz for winning this year's Mojo award for Best Compilation, for A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Exploding In Your Mind, Volume 2: Pagan Love Vibrations. The Mojo Editor in chief had this to say:

"Amorphous Androgynous are the greatest psychedelic crate-diggers of all-time. Noel Gallagher loves them, Paul Weller loves them and MOJO readers clearly love them. They did a mix for an issue of MOJO that tangled up '60s psychedelia with soul, jazz and space rock and it is one of the most talked-about covermount CDs in the history of the magazine. This month's issue of UK music technology magazine Computer Music (Issue 153, July 2010) contains a feature entitled Ambient Masterclass, which features Dr Alex Patterson of the Orb, Gier Jenssen - better known as Biosphere - and FSOL's own Garry Cobain giving their tips and advice on creating ambient music. The article itself is probably more interesting to beginners than anyone who's, y'know, actually made ambient music before, but Gaz does take the chance to wax lyrical about the lines between technology and human, and does actually talk about the immersive nature of great ambient music, so it could be an interesting read for fans. Just don't expect any reverb recommentations...

Almost two years ago to the day, we announced an update from FSOLDigital of Environments 2 and 3, and then joked of a forthcoming Environments 4. A joke no more, the album art to Environments 3 contains an advert for the other volumes in the series - 1, 2 and 4! Maybe 4 will be 'the new album'! Who knows. The front cover is a beautiful shot of some derelict looking buildings and a sunset that looks even more impressive than the current volume's sleeve. More news on that when we get it.

Mood-wise, we can confirm what was long suspected (since the appearance of the cover back in '08): this is a very Dead Cities sounding record. Following Volume 2's epic spaciousness and possibly cold arctic sounds, this record is darker, more haunting and more sinister. The initial impression is 'the ruins of the Dead City' - that album's mood but more sombre and less violent. The warped/damaged photos of deserted architecture in the sleeve matches this.
On the whole the music is ambient, with a few of the group's recent neoclassical leanings (particularly the beautiful opening piece, and the astonishing string section in End Of The World); more percussion than the first two volumes but not so much to make it anything other than a true ambient record. All in all: utterly marvellous.

Eagle eyed (eared?) among you will spot the gorgeous My Kingdom/In A State Of Permanent Abyss remix from the LA show as The Empty Land, Viewed From The Right officially turning up as the second part of Sunken Ships and elements of Womb appearing on the record, along with lots of lovely unheard material and some very moody sounding vibes. And lots of percussion! This is going to be very different to volumes 1 and 2, we're getting a Dead Cities feel to it all.

Gaz has previously stated they're working on a remix for Pop Levi, who's signed to the label, so it's easy to work out what this is. Vol 3 of the Monstrous series meanwhile is in the works and will be released mid 2010 on the newly established MONSTROUS BUBBLE records which has been set-up as a thoroughfare not only for all MONSTROUS activities but also as a means for signing and spearheading the new psychedelia as foretold in the MPB sonic manifestos !!

On a sadder note Platipus Records who had the vision and commitment to release both Vol 1 and Vol 2 of the Monstrous series has become the latest victim of Pinnacle distribution folding last year which literally saddled hundreds of indie labels with insurmountable losses ( both financial and stock- remember all the Xmas problems getting hold of Vol 1 ! ) .

Temporarily this means that Vol 1 & 2 of MPB are unavailable but we are trying to pick-up the licenses to continue Vol 1 & 2 on MONSTROUS BUBBLE RECORDS so will update on that !!
Since Platipus' 2 album license of Monstrous effectively ended with the release of Vol 2 anyway Monstrous Bubble Records had already been set-up last year with the express purpose of releasing Vol 3 with the same distribution/ PR team as per VOL 2. So with all licensing well in hand on Vol 3, to all intents and purpose its all MONSTROUS as per normal but our thoughts and gratitude do however go out to Platipus for all their vision, support and tenacity !!

It is very likely that forthcoming Amorphous Androgynous records (how many are we expecting now? We can think of at least seven here) may be released through the imprint. Bit of a late one this. 'As of March 9th 2010, Platipus has ceased trading'.
Well, that's terrible news. For a label like Platipus who focus largely on the trancier end of dance stuff to get behind the very leftfield bizarre MPB albums so enthusiastically showed their decency, and the amount of information Rich sent me personally or gave to our forums showed his understanding of the importance of fans. It's a real shame to see a label of such integrity closing down.
This, of course, draws into question where Gaz and Brian are going to release the forthcoming Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble mix CDs, and what will happen to the remaining stock of the two available editions. We're hoping they don't go out of print!

And, typically, the second volume of A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble, 'Pagan Love Vibrations', has just been nominated for a Mojo award for compilation of the year. Winner will be announced on June 10th.

30/04/10 - More Environments 3 samples!

When we heard 'Sunken Ships' on Electric Brain Storms 6, it appeared to just be an updated version of 'Viewed From The Right' (from Electric Brain Storms 4). It turns out it's the spooky, haunting, reverb-drenched strings and synths piece before that, around 55 minutes. Another sample can now be heard on the band's MySpace. It is another confirmed track from Environments 3. Heart Sick, now titled Heart Sick Chord - a harpsichord pun maybe? - has also been confirmed for the album, and can be heard on the site. All this suggests the album really can't be far away now!

20/04/10 - that Record Store Day 12" and the state of the world

Those of you lucky enough to have picked yourself up one of the 500 copies of the Amorphous Androgynous/Paul Weller remix 12" at your local indie on Record Store Day in the UK this Saturday gone, well done! Hopefully it's enjoyable. The album is out worldwide this week and hopefully reports about the remix will be coming in soon.
I almost don't want to advertise the fact here, but several copies have already turned up on eBay at extortionate prices. Typically, alas, the small but terrible number of selfish cunts that live among us chose Record Store Day - an event to promote the act of going to your local record shop to pay a decent price for an interesting record - as a chance to make a considerable profit with their easily picked up rarities. There's currently a copy going for a ridiculous £150. Sadly, I'm sure, somebody is going to pay that, but I'm actively encouraging people to avoid the auctions and stop these fuckers making a lot of money from genuine music fans, and stopping the FSOL and Paul Weller fans out there showing their support to the artists and the stores willing to keep the independent record industry alive through their generous releases. A nice treat for fans and record shops at a reasonable price has now become an immediate collectable at the hands of the worst kind of money minded cunts.
TL;DR? Do not pay dickheads ridiculous amounts of money for this 12", they do not deserve it. Please.

The Oldest Lady has turned up in YouTube in a slightly remixed form and is due for release soon on the imminent Environments 3. The CD looks to be an epic with a rumoured 18 tracks. And very slightly updated cover. The album will feature 'old new enhanced' music - similar to Environments 2, with a number of confirmed new tracks involved.

Our hundredth post in the news blog is rather an exciting thing - the first confirmed material from Environments 3 has been posted on YouTube.
Out Of Sync Child can be found on the STAKKERHUMANOID channel (or by clicking that there link). A slow breakbeat and some atmospheric synths have this track fitting in, stylically, with the more abstract, moody nature of Polemical, Heads Of Agreement and Yage's The Woodlands Of Old, suggesting the track is very much new and that Environments 3 could contain a significant amount of newly recorded music.
1.21 of the track is available, it's unknown if this is the full track or just a sample.

In typically last minute fashion, we've just found out about the Paul Weller remix that's been spoken about of late.

"The Amorphous Androgynous have just completed a new remix for the deluxe edition of Paul Weller’s new album “Wake Up The Nation”. The 4 part, 20 minute mix encapsulates 2 tracks from his new album “Aim High” and “Pieces Of A Dream”. The album is released on 12th April."

A bit of intrigue lately, and some song titles for potential up coming archive style releases for you: Switzerland, Dead Dolphine 2, East Pacifica, Eleven Hot Knives, Egypt (Original) and Under Pass. None of these are confirmed for release and may change names in the meantime, but it's something to have a think about. Maybe. If you're bored. See the forums for more information.

More interestingly, it's been rumoured The Amorphous Androgynous, in their continual attempt to take over the world, are doing a cover mix CD for Mojo magazine, in what will probably be February's issue (195), despite it coming out at the beginning of January. Do dates mean nothing to these people? Anyway, Alisha Sufit said 'Gaz Cobain and Brian Dougans will put their wizard hats on and beaver away with their mixing bowls for quite some time to make a good pud for Mojo, so we hope so . . . .' on her blog somewhat recently, so that looks like it may be the same thing...

Old stuff - the New Consciousness YouTube was updated some time ago, apparently, with more videos of this early 80s art project featuring Brian, along with a track from 1978 band The Heads, which features the same Mr. Dougans on guitar. Thanks to Ceeg for pointing these incredibly interesting curios out!

Apologies for the lack of updates re: all this, there've been hiccups and other tedious problems all around this end.

So, here's what's going on:
1. The Amorphous Androgynous Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble Vol 2 launch party at the O2 is cancelled. Mr. Cobain has this to say on the 'matter' (ahem):
Sorry to announce that Matter and ourselves have taken the decision to cancel A MONSTROUS PSYCHEDELIC BUBBLE ( scheduled for this FRIDAY 30th OCTOBER ).
Matter largely having operated within the dance music/ DJ events sphere to date were simply unprepared for the amount of production and promotion work for a LIVE event of this scale.( 7 bands and numerous theatrical interludes ) This has resulted in everything being compromised to an unacceptable extent and therefore we have mutually decided to cancel at this stage. Monstrous however will definitely resurface as the full-on extravaganza it was always intended to be . . . .and maybe still at Matter . .

MANY MANY APOLOGIES for any inconvenience and disappointment !! We worked very hard on this and share both sentiments !!

2. Amorphous supporting Kasabian
Alisha Sufit writes this about AA's support slot with Kasabian on October 21st...
Cor! Last night The Amorphous Androgynous played at the HMV Forum AND IT WAS GREAT despite the fact that we were in a . . . shall we say . . . cosy? dressing room considering the amount of bodies we were.

Built in 1934 as a cinema when film was truly glam, the HMV Forum is a wonderful piece of architecture, a lavish and inspiring environment for any gig. I had had my doubts about how the sound balance would turn out, as it can be a bit shaky at festivals and we had a strictly limited time frame, plus we were working with new sound men, but I reckon it was the best we've had so far. The gig was a headliner for Kasabian and had sold out in 15 minutes, I was told, so the place was nicely packed with 2000 happy bods or more.

I'm truly honoured to be invited to sing with The A A guys – the musicians are so good, the music is so inspiring and inventive! The band is really coming together now so I hope we get more gigs of the same ilk on our own patch – i.e. in the UK. (It's a great excuse to wear outrageous twinkly frocks, as well, let alone the psychedelic plimsoles!)

3. Gaz in The Times
Thanks to The Times Online's terrible security scripting, it's probably easier if you read this interview here, and ignore the words 'lead poisoning' and continual references to Gaz being the only member of Amorphous (sigh).

Yep - as if the remix wasn't enough, now Amorphous have covered Oasis' Falling Down. What the song is for, whether it'll be released or not, and so on, is yet to be revealed, but Alisha Sufit writes this on her blog...

VOV! Well . . . not VOV really . . . that was just what it sounded like when my French friend used to say WOW!! But, yes, WOW! All yesterday Amorphous Androgynous were recording their very own new cover version of Oasis's Falling Down (love that song!) down at The Way studio run by nice Steve. Gorgeous chaps Virgil and Kes came in early to lay down the drums and bass and then we layered the rest – WonderAnt on guitar, Dave BAD! bongos, fab fiddle from Steve, cello from genius Hannah Miller, vocals from me in the early hours, vocals from SuperDave in the even later early hours . . . in between times, Dave (Sanderson), Edd Keene (flute), me and Hannah gently sessioned upstairs in the loungey place. Mare Street is good for great takeaways, too. I don't know what the poor little rescued canary made of it all in his big cage in the office, but he sang a bit as well! Then a nice Turk cabbed me home to my bed with a smile on my chops at 2 a.m. – no hour for an old hippie still to be up!! I went out like a light as soon as my head hit the feathers. Yes, we didn't finish till late . . . LATE!! Who was it on the studio sofa said, "And you're mixing it tonight, too, are you?" I THINK NOT! Gaz Cobain and Brian Dougans will put their wizard hats on and beaver away with their mixing bowls for quite some time to make a good pud for Mojo, so we hope so . . . .

Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble album launch @ Matter, London O2 Arena, 30th October, with Hawkwind, Comus, Yellow Moon Band, Nick Nicely's Unlived Lives, Cranium Pie, Alisha Sufit and special guests. Noel Gallagher is no longer appearing with The Amorphous Androgynous.

And the Athens gig is... er, 'December'. We'll let you know more on that one as and when.

After the two EBV releases of the late '90s, FSOL have once again branched out into artist distribution - this time with two digital releases.
First up is 'Prestatyn' by longtime FSOL friend and collaborator, Riz Maslen as Neotropic.
"Prestatyn is a journey of melancholy, inspired by childhood holidays in the bleak yet beautiful landscape of Prestatyn in North Wales. Although these holidays were happy times, there is the back story of the struggles of a single mum trying to make ends meat and give her kids some kind of escape away from the traumas of a family break up! Riz creates her landscape filled with her memories, with its dark meanderings leading to the ever hopeful crescendo."
Tracklist includes The Horse Trainer, Patience and Farewell/Home. The digital release includes a Yage remix of Home, while the CD runs at only three tracks.
Second up is Hegira by Seafar - better known to some of you as FSOLBoard poster Mason Bentley. The two hour album is described as:
"A new comer to FSOLdigital - SEAFAR deliver a fat slice of electric space music - Hegira the sounds of a flight from danger. Wander the streets together, the noise of life muted by sheets of rain, brilliant colours dimmed in a pervading mist of grey. An instrumental amalgam of moody beats and synth drenched noises."
The 26 track album can be downloaded from FSOLDigital, where you can also find the Neotropic download, and the Neotropic CD purchase link. The site itself has had a brief overhaul with a sparser look, new fonts and a link to the second Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble CD release (as well as a broken link to an MPB8 podcast - coming soon perhaps?). And fear not, links to the forthcoming 2" Tape Reels and Environments 3 remain!

Meanwhile, Gaz is kicking up a storm on the internet, this time in an argument with a poster on YouTube which has been recounted in full on WATMM and can be read. It all ended peacefully, but throws an interesting light on the perspective of filesharing from the owner of an independent digital label.

We'll have news on confirmed dates for the next Amorphous shows - the MPB launch has been moved tentatively to 'October' - soon.

10/08/09 - Zeebox Volume 3 finally appears!

After some wait, we finally get our hands on the third and final Zeebox release. The record is remixed and enhanced - "some of these recordings may suffer from wow and flutter - most have been salvaged from 25 year old reel to reel tapes - some of which had to be baked - more at fsoldigital.com".
Featuring 29 tracks, the release is more consistent and flowing than the previous, more disjointed Zeebox releases. Each track features an image and recording information in the id3 tag. For some sneak preview tracks, have a look online - where else but Brian's YouTube.
Zeebox Volume 3 can be bought for £5.00 from FSOLdigital.

Yeah, we couldn't think of a better headline. Anyway, several videos have appeared on the STAKKERHUMANOID YouTube channel this week. First up, FSOL's hilarious delivery of Dead Cities to Virgin Records in May 1996 here. Graham explains...
A band is meant to on completion of recording an album hand over the finished parts to the record company which are signed for and acknowledged. This is called delivery and is done so that the legal people are happy that the contract has been adhered.

FSOL decided to do a bit more than send it over on a bike.

Second up, the video for "Beers" by Headstone Lane.

Thirdly, a short extract of an interview with Buggy G. Riphead, talking about his art and the My Kingdom single artwork.

A little bit of exciting news about the Amorphous show in Athens in September has appeared on the radar, in the form of a certain Mr. B. Dougans appearing on stage. We don't know in what capacity he'll perform (perhaps taking over electronics, leaving Gaz to be full on front man), but it's all very exciting and should hopefully put an end to the 'Amorphous is a Gaz solo project' rubbish which appears every now and then!

13/06/09 - FSOL DVD and July DJ dates

The phrase 'FSOL DVD' has been one in the back of the FSOL fan's mind for something like seven years now. We're not sure if this is the one, or maybe it's just a DVD of the Athens show and little else, but Gaz has mentioned it on the first official footage of that performance here on YouTube. The video also contains footage of new material (the stuff with female vocals in the middle may be the new extended version of Lifeforms, or a new track, we're not sure, but the section with Gaz singing sounds very different and new to us, and worth a listen).

Gaz will be DJing some Amorphous/Psych Bubble sets at the beginning of July - Harvest Psychedelic somewhere in Wales' capital, Cardiff, on the third, and the following day at Beat Herder Festival a little further north in Lancashire.

No waiting about for radio stations, once more we have a FSOLDigital exclusive Podcast direct from The Pod Room - Electric Brain Storms 5. Featuring the usual selection of industrial, ambient, early electronics, Krautrock and the occasional splashes of Amorphous eccentritcy that EBS listeners will now be used to, the show - titled "I Stood There, Motionless" - is a little lighter than its predecessor, the spooky "The Spirit Of Dark And Lonely Water". But only a little. No exclusive FSOL this time, although there are a few selections from the forthcoming third Zeebox volume. And the show fits handily on a CD, running at 1 hour 14 minutes. 25/05/09 - Athens show: news and reviews

FSOL's headline performance in Athens was, of course, on Saturday, and several of our lucky forum members were in attendance. While we're waiting for an official tracklist, here's a peek at what went on.
All reports give the show top marks, with an hour and a half performance including new tracks, variations on old ones and ambient interludes. The setup, featuring a massive screen in the shape of Brian and Gaz's faces, was performed to a large crowd, sent in over ISDN cables from Brian's studio in Somerset. Tracks performed included:

Life Festival. 29th - 31st May. Ballinlough Castle in Ireland. Headlined by FSOL. Another for your diaries. And remembering the Athens show is on Saturday!
DJ set in Bulgaria? Not sure if this is actually a DJ set or an Amorphous DJ set or what... more news soon! Park Live, 18-20th June.

Elsewhere, the Green Man slot has been expanded to a full eleven hour show,
featuring "HAWKWIND / the Amorphous Androgynous / YELLOW MOON BAND/ NICK NICELY / ALISHA SUFIT / CRANIUM PIE and DJs tba". Whether these are performances or just what Gaz is going to spin we don't know yet. If it's performances it's a pretty staggeringly high key lineup... although considering AA are supporting Hawkwind later in the year, not one entirely out of the blue.
The Amorphous MySpace also confirms the DJ slot at Oasis' aftershow party, Wembley, 9th July (of particular note if you're famous and know the Gallagher brothers), and a further show at 'Cable London' - A Monstrous Psychedelic Bubble (DJ set we'd imagine from the name, but the event states simply 'AA Live'), on 28th August.

No news on new music. If what we're led to believe is true, the next 'release' we'll have will be Electric Brainstorms 5, although never trust anything anybody ever says to you about FSOL. Including this. With the increasing number of live shows and DJ slots coming up this year, it's unsurprising we've not heard much from the studio!

You never know what you're going to get with this lot sometimes, do you?

It seems to be largely conducted with Brian, which makes for very interesting reading in itself, but also asks questions about the FSOL ethos, the digital age and future plans, and is pleasingly honest in its non-psychedelic responses (except asking about the future live stuff, which was answered in typically FSOL vagueness!). Anyway, we really enjoyed reading this, so give it a peek!

A very kind soul who was lucky enough to catch the boys at BLOC festival has uploaded some clips for us. You can find them here. They're hosted on MySpace video - if anyone has any trouble with Java/Flash/other tedious crap which happened at this end when trying to view these, we recommend VDownloader to cut out all the Flash Video crap in the middle.

What to say? Proggy sounds familiar to us from the ExtremeMusic compilations, while the new untitled track is very nice - melodic but upbeat with an IDM-ish sort of rhythm. Performances of the others sounded similar to album versions, but there seems to be some variation, and apparently Lifeforms was altered more significantly, although we don't have a video of that yet.

If anything more turns up, ie a recording (hint hint guys), we'll let you know!
